Dirty Night

“Dirty Night” is a new painting created for The Peekskill Coffee House group show dedicated to the work of Alfred Hitchcock. Alfred was a master of creating visual tension, discomfort and fear and since the majority of his films have lots of fantastic classic cars in them this was great fun to research and create. I ran through a bunch of his films while deciding which one would inspire my painting and was just blown away while playing them in slow motion and stopping the DVD’s for still shots.

“Dirty Night” was a line uttered by Norman Bates in Psycho. The car is a 1957 Ford Custom and was driven by Janet Leigh’s character Marion. After Marion was butchered in the shower scene, Norman stuffed her in the trunk of her car and pushed the car into the swamp. The image has the shadow on Norman cast across the trunk.

Quentin vs. Coen Goes to Hollywood

Following the highly successful stops in New York City and San Francisco, this highly publicized show is coming to the pop culture capital of the world, Los Angeles on October 1st and 2nd for a two day display at the Beyond Eden Art Fair. The fair is in its 6th year and features LA galleries including Thinkspace, La Luz de Jesus and CoproNason.

An art show tribute that pits the films of cult favorites Quentin Tarantino and the Coen Brothers against each other, “Quentin vs. Coen” is a battle royale of painting, sculpture, prints and collage. Featuring over 100 different artists from around the world, the show serves as a look at some of the most iconic and memorable scenes, characters and films from the highly heralded director’s oeuvres.

Paintings are currently being show at Creatures Boutique in ‘SoCo’ - Austin, TX

Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review joins Creatures Boutique, 1206 S. Congress, to showcase artwork by myself at the shop through Sept 25, 11AM-7PM daily.

This exhibit ‘Rear View’ features a series of vintage cars published in the new issue of Borderlands.

Exhibit paintings are for sale; details at the store (512-707-2500).

Borderlands is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin Cultural Arts Division.

Gwendolyn went to Austin – The Update

Successfully completed a whirlwind visit in Austin. It was damn hot (and still is). Thank you NY for cooling down for our return. We had lovely friends as tour guides and hosts and slept in the most comfortable bed I’ve ever experienced at the Intercontinental Hotel. Great food, drinks, music and super friendly Texas hospitality.

Paintings will be showing in the windows of St. Vincent de Paul for the next two to three weeks. This vintage boutique and thrift store is located in “SoCo” (1327 South Congress Ave). The first Thursday in August (and every first Thursday of the month) is when SoCo’s big block party takes place so check out the party.

Borderlands Texas Poetry Review summer issue will arrive in stores mid-August, and features 14 reproductions of my work.

Bookstores will include:
